Although the Western Plains Zoo is the best know tourist attraction
in Dubbo there are many more interesting places to visit and things to
do.
In fact you can easily fill several days and wonder where the time went. Here is a summary of what Dubbo has to offer.
You can easily spend a day exploring the wonders of the Dubbo Zoo. Check out the option of starting with an early morning walk. They are available every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year and additional days are included during School Holidays and Long Weekends. Your guided walking tour will take you to some areas not included in general entry and at the completion a hearty breakfast is available in the lakeside bistro.
The road that takes you through the five continent areas is approximately 6 kilometers and you can either drive around in your own car, ride bikes or hire an electric buggy. Why not take some tucker along and make use of the many BBQ picnic areas. Some of the Aussie animals just might wander in and say hello.

Located right in the main street and next to the Commonwealth Bank, this is a trip back in time. You will marvel at the animatronic models that give you in site into their part in the gaol community. You will need a couple of hours to absorb this delightful piece of history.

Experience this beautiful Japanese garden at Dubbo's developing botantical gardens in Elizabeth Park.

They affectionately call this Dubbo's "star"attraction. The observatory has state of the art computerised Meade LX200 telescopes to explore the universe. Learn about where we live in space and have a fun night out. Bookings in advance are essential.
Home to Dubbo Regional Gallery, Museum and Community Arts Centre. Recently constructed and opened from September 2006 the centre will host a variety of art exhibitions.
Dubbo's state of the art museum developed in the old Dubbo High
school buildings is titled " Dubbo Stories, People, Places and
Possessions". This exhibition explores pastoral landscapes with symbols
of agriculture and family ambition. Dubbo streetscapes reveal the
changing facades of shops and the hidden stories within.
Storytellers spin yarns about Dubbo events and identities.

Others include The Claypan Galleryin Dubbo's old powerhouse building and the Garling Gallery in the village of Wongarbon
Day trips recommended are to the Wellington Caves, Phosphate Mine and Lake Burrendong. Visit the Warrumbungle National Park or in the other direction is the famous "Dish" or Parkes Radio Telescope.
Narromine has it's Avaition museum and Swanes Rose Nursery and don't forget the delights of Mudgee and Gulgong.
